Simple Audio are a relatively new company, based in Scotland, who are incredibly passionate about music and the delivery of it in the modern world. Their product range is very simple (no pun intended) with 2 products called Roomplayer I and Roomplayer II. Roomplayer I is a self contained unit which simply needs a pair of speakers connecting to it. It is £599.00 and will drive some proper speakers will very good results indeed. Roomplayer II is £499.00 and is designed to connect to an existing hi-fi either via its analogue or digital outputs. Visually they look identical. Simple Audio can stream music off a PC/Mac/Nas Drive or Server and can be controlled via a computer, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. They are very cleverly utlising Ethernet over main technology making it very simple to install anywhere in the home. HD 24 bit music is slowly starting to come of age and Simple Audio recognise this, both Roomplayer will play up 24/192 files. So far we only have the Roomplayer I on demonstration (Roomplayer will follow soon), connected up to a pair of PMC GB1i or Spendor A5 speakers the results are really good, something for £599.00 should not sound this good! We've always liked the Arcam Solo Neo, it is very flexible and sounds great. Well, we know like it an awful lot more! Arcam have decided to reduce the price from £1400 to £1000. Partnered with a pair of sensible speakers (the B&W CM1's or the Focal Chorus 806V's are popular choices)  and you've got a system which delivers real music and punches well above its weight/price tag

The new Arcam FMJ D33 Dac is now on demonstration. With 7 digital inputs (2 Coaxial, 2 Optical, 1 AES/EBU, 1 USB type A and USB type B inputs) this is an incredibly well specified bit of kit. There are actually 2 USB type B inputs (you can only use 1 at a time), one input is galvanically isolated and supports sample rates up to (and including) 24/96. This is input is recommended for anyone using an older computer (which is more likely to introduce mains interference into the delicate audio signal). The other USB type B input is not isolated, supports up to 24/192 and is the one we'd recommend using if you've a newer PC or Mac. We did a demo yesterday where we used the CD37 as both a CD player and a transport into the DAC using Ryan Adams Gold. The result? The CD37 is great in its own right but after comparing it to the DAC it sounded rather lacklustre. We got out a couple of other CD players and made the same comparison, some of which sounded broken in comparison to the D33. We also had a laptop connected streaming 16/44.1, 24/96 and 24/192 files, with each step the DAC simply breathed more life and detail into the system. It is important to stress with all PC's or Mac's it is critical to get the computer set up correctly to avoid any unnecessary upsampling by the computer. The D33 is a brilliant piece of kit. Just arrived! The new Rega Fono Mini A2D MM phono stage with built in analogue to digital conversion via USB. Priced at £85.00 the new Fono Mini A2D is a conventional MM phono stage which connects to your amplifier (or pre-amplifier) using normal interconnects. However, it also has a USB connection which allows your to connect your turntable to your PC and simply transfer your vinyl to your hard drive (you need software to do this such as Audacity which does not come included, but is a free download). We've just taken on a couple of valve amplifiers from a relatively new company called Mistral Audio. Far East in origin (but with proper UK support) we have been very impressed by the level of performance on offer (especially when you consider the relatively modest price point). There are 2 models, the entry level DT-307A and its bigger brother the MT34 (pictured to the right). The tiny DT-307A is £249.00 and the MT34 is £800.00. At both price points these 2 models punch well above their weight and have the ability to worry other amps costing more money. They both offer 2 line level inputs (plus the smaller DT307 has a USB input for a iPod/iPhone or iPad). Arcam rCube - Now only £350.00!

The Arcam rCube iPod Speaker System has had a bit of a price reduction. Previously priced at £499.00 it has just been reduced to a rather competitive £350.00.

Priced at £199.00 we now have the Musical Fidelity V-Dac II in stock. The new V-Dac comes as standard in a nice new all aluminium case and the USB input is asynchronous as standard (the original V-Dac wasn't). For the money it's a bit of a bargain!

The new, compact B&W PM1 loudspeaker is now with us, it feels like we have been waiting forever for them to arrive but as they say "good things comes to those who wait". Priced at £2000.00 per pair plus stands (the dedicated B&W stands are £400.00) these little speakers could quite possibly rewrite the rulebook at this price point. Unmistakenly B&W in both their appearance and sonic ability these are very impressive little monitors. If you are after a pair of high performance, yet compact speakers these could be just the thing. The fit and finish is stunning and really sets the speakers apart from lots of other more traditional designs.

The Sonos Play:3 Zoneplayer is now with us, priced at a very modest £259.00 the Play:3 slips under the S5 (now renamed as the Play:5) as the new entry level zoneplayer. It is signficantly smaller than a Play:5, ideal for the bedside table or kitchen windowsill. As with a Play:5, you can put a pair together in stereo mode to boost performance in larger spaces. The Rega Brio has evolved......

The Rega Brio R integrated amplifier is now with us and is exceeding our expectations given its relatively modest price point (£480.00 with a remote control). A significant step up over the old Brio (and the Mira possibly too), it's a really engaging and enjoyable little amplifier. Coupled with the Rega Dac, it's the making of a high performance compact and sensibly priced system. A matching CD player will be following later in the year. We now have the dCS Debussy DAC on demonstration. It's a Dac, it's a pre-amp, it has a computer interface. You can simply connect this to a power amp and away you go. There's never been a more affordable way to get into dCS and without sacrificing performance. Take a modest/sensible transport connected to the Debussy and you will amazed at what it does (and what it can beat). Hook up a Mac Mini via asynchronous USB running iTunes and Pure Music with an iPad as a remote and you've arguably THE BEST streaming solution in existence. B&W DB1 Active Subwoofer

Why have one 12 inch drive unit when you can have two!! The new B&W DB1 (from part of the 800 Diamond Series) active subwoofer has arrived with us at last. Priced at £3250.00 it's not for the faint hearted. One of the most flexible subwoofers available on the market, it has the ability to connect to a PC for set-up, has built in EQ and comes with a calibration microphone. A flat response never sounded (or felt!) so good!

To celebrate their 20th anniversary this year PMC are offering a 20 year warranty on all of their passive loudspeakers. This new warranty will be backdated to the 1st of January 2011 - all speakers must be registered with PMC to be applicable for the this warranty. Nice to see a manufacturer with serious confidence in their product!

Focal Dome 5.1 Speaker System now on demo....

We now have the Focal Dome 5.1 speaker system on demonstration. It looks great, is very well made and most importantly sounds excellent. It is very flexible as well, the speakers can be placed on a piece of furniture, on a wall or on a ceiling, optional floorstands are available too. It recently received a glowing 5 star review in What Hi-Fi Magazine.

We now have on demonstration the tiny little Earmax Pro II Valve Headphone Amplifier. Priced at £595.00 this thing is a glorious box of tricks. If you've a good pair of headphones and you want to get the best out of them without spending silly money look no further. Spendor have just released a brand new speaker, a very compact floorstander called the A3, priced at just £1295.00. Smaller than an A5, these are a great compact speaker. Have you been Fraimed........

Naim have launched a new equipment, a light version of the Fraim called the Fraim Lite....... £1000.00 for 4 tiers (as shown to the left), it looks similar to the original Fraim, but it is minus the glass/ball bearing arrangement. It looks really good, sounds great for the money and is more affordable if you've more modest Naim equipment and don't want to buy the full fat Fraim. We approve!!

 Tell it like it is...... 

We've been stocking and selling Tellurium Q  cables for around 7 months now and like the MusicWorks products below it really is something very special The entire range of Tellurium Cables has won awards from Hi-Fi Plus, Hi-Fi News and Hi-Fi World over the past few months. Tellurium Q cables They produce RCA and XLR Interconnects and have just released a 5 Pin Din Cable which sounds absolutely wonderful. There are 4 speaker cables ranging from £16.50 a metre up to £248.00 a metre. The most popular cable is the Black at £47.00 a metre, coupled with an interconnect appropriate to your system, it is seeing off things from other well established brands costing 2 or 3 times the price.....easily. The Ultra Black at £248.00 a metre is scarily good, as Hi-Fi + commented in their recent review try it if you dare, once you've had it in your system it is very, very difficult to take it out!

We've touched on these before on our news page, but having had them in-store for a couple of months now we thought it time we should revisit them as they really are having a profound effect on whatever we use them with. There are 2 blocks available the MusicWorks Reflex Lite (£450.00) and the Musicworks Reflex Plus (£600.00). They are both completely unfiltered, all you need to do is add a mains cable of your choice, MusicWorks mains cables start at £350.00. The Cyrus Mono X-200 power amplifiers have now arrived, we've not had chance to plug them in yet but as with the 300's we are expecting great things from them. Performance should be a step up from the outgoing Mono X's - we report back once we've had the chance to put them through their paces.

The original Cyrus Mono X Power Amplifiers have always been one our favourite power amps, they certain have the grunt and finesse to keep up with things costing a lot more money. Well their bigger brothers have just arrived. The Mono X-300 Power Amplifiers are priced at £5000.00 a pair. These are without a doubt the most powerful and impressive sounding power amps Cyrus have ever manufactured. They make the Mono X (which is still wonderful in its own right) sound a bit flat and shut in. The X-300 is so open and transparent with wonderful dynamics. HD800 In Store 

It feels like we've been waiting forever to get our hands on our demo model of the flagship Sennheiser headphones, the HD800, but finally they are here. We've sold a few pairs, but we've not had them on demo until now, priced at £1000.00 a set it goes without saying these really are something special. Coupled with a good headphone amplifier - the Musical Fidelity X-Can V8P springs to mind (or the new upcoming HPA-1 watch this space), the results are rather impressive.

The picture does not do them justice to be honest, they look absolutely fantastic and sound rather good as well. We've had the Audiolab 8200 CD player in for a couple of weeks now and thought it about time we mention something about it as we've all had raised eyebrows at the performance on offer for the relatively modest cost. Priced at £729.00  the 8200CD also offers a coaxial and optical input alongside a rather impressive asynchronous USB input, featuring both single ended and balanced outputs this is certainly ticking all of the boxes from a specification standpoint. Sonically it really impresses as well. We've had it up against a couple of conventional CD players, both of which were more money than the Audiolab but the 8200 more than holds its own, you then take the DAC into account and we've possibly found the best sub £1000.00 CD player on the market today??
