Following the success of our award-winning, and the recently introduced, performance-on-a-budget HDMI SuperShield, was always going to be an interesting challenge. With the new HDMI Active, we consider that we have produced a cable that will enhance the viewing pleasure of the enthusiast and indeed anyone who wants to get the best from their audio-visual equipment.

Interestingly, the most significant improvements with the HDMI Active is the sound quality. We have continued the tried and tested solution of very heavy gauge silver plated oxygen free signal conductors - 26AWG conductors that reduce signal attenuation. The shielding used is traditional Chord Co: ie. overlapped foil shielding around all critical signal paths to minimise crosstalk. Double outer foil and high-density braid also combine to minimise the levels of external interference.

The exciting aspect of the Chord HDMI Active is the inclusion of a high frequency filter on all lengths. The filter reduces the intra/inter channel skew between the four pairs of TDMS signals. In tests using Denon, Arcam, Yamaha and Playstation 3 DVD and Blu-ray players, all aspects of picture were improved by using the HDMI Active cable.

When compared to the Chord HDMI Silver plus 1.3, the Chord Active produced a more detailed, dynamic and crucially musically coherent sound. The improvement in performance was such that in tests participants consistently chose a 15 metre Chord Active HDMI cable over a similarly priced 1 metre cable. In factory and field audio testing, both two channel and multi-channel systems were used.

The Chord HDMI Active Silver Plus has been designed and manufactured to provide an extremely high level of performance. The cable should be handled and installed with sensible care and attention to routing. All Chord cables come with a ten year warranty. This warranty does not cover failures arising from modification or physical damage during installation or use. The Chord HDMI Active Silver Plus will carry a 340 MHz signal. These signals can be easily corrupted or lost. To preserve these delicate signals our cables have been manufactured to extremely high tolerances, and rough cable pulling, crushing or kinking can affect the cables performance.

To ensure you obtain full performance, the following must be adhered to:

• The black plug fitted to the cable should be connected to the source component
• Check the actual cable you intend to install with the equipment you wish to connect before routing the cable.
• If you are having these cables installed by a third party or within the fabric of a building, it is your responsibility to ensure that the cable is working to the required performance with the intended equipment prior to installation.
• You should also advise any third party on the quality,cost and performance of this cable, and the fact that it requires to be installed with care.
